In 2009 Schindler was one of 7 companies recently awarded with an Australian Business Excellence Award. The Award is a culmination of our work across the whole business in developing and creating a sustainable business. As the only elevator company to be receive this honour we are proud to be leading the Industry to new heights.
Developed by leading business individuals, the Business Excellence Framework (BEF) is a non-prescriptive tool designed to help businesses, assess and improve essential elements of their organisations. BEF is an integrated leadership and management system that embraces seven key elements of an organisation that includes Leadership, Customer and Market Focus, Strategy and Planning, People, Information and Knowledge, Process Management, Improvement and Innovation and Success and Sustainability.
Extensive research has proven that organisations that embrace and effectively implement the principles and practices of the BEF achieve outstanding and sustainable results. Furthermore the BEF also complements a number of other well-accepted business initiatives such as ISO 9000 series, Six Sigma, Balance Scorecard and Corporate Governance.
The BEF has been used by many different organisations representing all key market sectors to create an environment for continuous improvement delivering organisational sustainability. Some prominent organisations using the BEF include Honeywell, Hewlett Packard, Hobart City Council, ATO, Rio Tinto, Boeing, QLD Department of Emergency Services and Fremantle Ports..
Schindler’s main objective for undertaking this is to assess the performance of the organisation against the key BEF elements and benchmark the organisation against the best in the field. This will bring key benefits to Schindler’s customers. Some of the tangible benefits that our key customers and strategic partners can look forward to is:
  • Improved products in terms of innovation and services
  • Increased customer service and satisfaction
  • Access to structured and systematic business practices
To date, key management personnel of Schindler Australia have analysed and developed responses for each of the seven categories in order to learn how the organisation works, its success factors and identify gaps. In the coming months Schindler Australia will be working closely with SAI Global to integrate BEF practices throughout all levels of the organisation. Schindler Australia’s long-term aim is to not only be the most successful organisation in the industry that continually improves itself but also be recognised for continuously adding value to all our customers.
